Slow Going for Cleanup of Drainage Basins

April 17, 2016
by Robert Lattery

The City of Fayetteville is still in the process of getting bids and approving one of those bids for cleaning up the overgrown drainage basins and ditches in the Summit Point subdivision.

Residents of Summit Point have been trying to be patient with this process, but now that spring has arrived, grasses, weeds, shrubs and trees growing in the basins are continuing to grow and expand. Many residents are understandably upset with the lack of progress in finally getting the basins cleared and repaired.

The City Council must approve this clean up, which is expected to cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. City officials have been asked to attend to the Summit Point Community Meeting on April 27, 2016 to give area residents an update on the matter.

In 2015, city officials agreed that the city was at least partially responsible for the conditions of the drainage basins and ditches in Summit Point. The city also agreed that they would pay for contractors to do the initial clean up, after which the Summit Point HOA would be responsible for maintaining all the subdivision's drainage basins and ditches.
